Recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued its project approval notice of Year 2015 of the National Key Basic Research and Development Program. The Project "Fundamental Theoretical Research on Extra Large Span Bridge Design and Safety Assessment", presided by CSUST, was approved, which marked a breakthrough in this field and opened a new chapter for scientific research in our university.
The project team is from eight institutions, namely, Changsha University of Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Tongji University, Hunan University, Chang'an University and the Second Highway Survey and Design Institute, with Professor Zhang Jianren from CSUST as its chief scientist. The research project spans from January 1st, 2015 to December 31st, 2019, with a total amount of funding for RMB 32 million yuan.
Notes: Introduction to National Key Basic Research and Development Program
The "National Key Basic Research and Development Plan" was formulated and implemented by the Ministry of Science and Technology, aiming to enact the policies of “developing the nation through education” and "sustainable development strategy" and to strengthen basic scientific research. It is also an ambitious goal to achieve economic, technological and social development by the middle of the 21st century.
The main task of the Program: 1. To focus on major scientific issues related to economic, social and technological development in the fields of agriculture, energy, information, resources and environment, population and health, and material; to carry out multidisciplinary research and to provided theoretical and scientific base for solutions; 2. To deploy frontline basic research; 3. To cultivate and foster innovative talents who could adapt to the development needs of the 21st century; 4. To construct a batch of high-level scientific research bases which could be capable of undertaking national key scientific and technological tasks and to build a number of integrated interdisciplinary research centers.
