The International Conference on Engineering Science and Technology was held in Beijing's People’s Great Hall on June 2-3, 2014. President Xi Jinping attended the meeting on June 3rd and delivered a keynote speech titled "To Create A Better Future for Humankind by Means of Engineering Science and Technology”, emphasizing that engineering science and technology is an important force to change the world, and the development of science and technology is a strategic choice for the world to address global challenges and achieve sustainable development; that China regards the innovation-driven development strategy as a major national strategy and that experts and scholars in science and technology from China and abroad can join hands and strengthen cooperation for the progress of human society and make newer and greater contributions.
Vice Premier Liu Yandong, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, and Chairman of China Association for Science and Technology Han Qide, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and Science and Technology Minister Wan Gang attended the conference. Zhou Ji, Chair of ICEST2014 Assembly, President of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and President of the International Academy of Engineering and Technology Board (CAETS) delivered welcoming remarks. More than 1,500 engineering, industry and government representatives from more than 30 countries attended this meeting, centering on such topics as the development of hybrid rice, food security, the future of energy, infrastructure, information and communications, engineering challenges and other issues. Professor Zheng Jianlong and Professor Yuan Jianbo from CSUST attended the meeting.
The conference was jointly organized by UNESCO, the International Council of Engineering and Technology Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering. The theme is "Engineering and the future of mankind."
