Recently, the results of Mathematical Contest In Modeling 2019 were announced. CSUST students from 6 schools including the School of Mathematics and Statistics and the School of Computer and Communication won 2 first prizes (Meritorious winner, “M” award in short) and 5 second prizes (Honorable Mention). Among them, the team consisting of supervisor Tan Yanxiang from the School of Mathematics & Statistics and three students including Chen Libo, Wang Baichang and She Jiabo, and the team consisting of supervisor Liang Xiaolin from the School of Mathematics &Statistics and three students including Zeng Wenjie, Xiao Zeyu and Li Sihan won the "M" award. This is the first time in history for CSUST to win the "M" award since participating in this contest.
The School of Mathematics and Statistics has always attached great importance to the Mathematical Contest In Modeling. This year, the school has set up four teams of supervisors to select and train students before the contest. In 2019, the winning rate for Mathematical Contest In Modeling was reduced by half, greatly increasing the difficulty of winning an award. This year, the winning rate for the first prize is 6%, and the winning rate for the second prize is 16%.
The Mathematical Contest In Modeling hosted by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Application is the most influential mathematical modeling contest in the world. The contest lasts 4 days, and English is used during the whole contest, which is a big challenge for the contestants. The School of Mathematics and Statistics is responsible for the organization and training of CSUST students participating in this contest.
