SYNERGISTIC ACTIVITIES

1) Wu applied finite element numerical analysis to the New Orleans levee floodwall system to find structural solutions for construction or retrofitting for DHS project “Structural, material, and geotechnical solutions to levee and floodwall construction and retrofitting”. He created detailed three-dimension FE models of levee floodwall, steel sheet pile and embankment to model applicability of a composite cap solution to reinforce the individual floodwalls. (2008-2012).

2) Wu completed MS DOT project Inputs of Portland cement concrete parameters needed for the design and rehabilitated pavement in Mississippi while he was a graduate student.

3) Wu is recipient of UTC Ruth S. Holmberg Grant for Faculty Excellence Award (2016), the grant is about applying Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) approach to model the liftup repair of highway sunken concrete pavement; he is also recipient of Faculty Research Grant (2015) which involves research on structural analysis to hybrid CNT- Graphene Sheet nano structure using FEA.

4) Wu is currently serving board member of Civil Engineering Journal. He contributes to the journal by acting as reviewer on Finite Element, mechanics of composites, infrastructure and concrete materials related research.

5) Reviewer of “CRC Press/ Taylor and Francis”. Wu has been invited to review at least 4 book proposals on FEA from the publisher. Wu also serves reviewer for “Journal of ASTM International”, “Journal of Testing and Evaluation”, and “Journal of Nanomechanics and Micromechanics”.
